History

Ralph C. Tyler, P.E., P.S., RTC's founder, the father of the current chairman, was one the first minorities in Ohio registered as both a professional surveyor and civil engineer. He started his business in Cleveland because, "Cleveland has always been good to me. Success takes perseverance and I could persevere here as well as anywhere."

Before the founding of Ralph Tyler Companies, Mr. Tyler had a long and illustrious career that spanned over fifty years. Over those many years, he worked in both the public and private sectors, including thirty years of public service as one of the first minorities in Ohio. Although times were tough in the early years for young African-American engineers, Mr. Tyler was not deterred. He used his education, talent, and courage to persevere and become one of the most respected people in his field. For this, he is considered a pioneer in professions where African-Americans had historically never been employed.

Mr. Tyler was involved in civic activities throughout his career and so is his son, Ralph S. Tyler, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Board. Ralph's background of business, civic, legal, and political leadership and achievement, plus the fundamental values embodied by his father, uniquely positions him to lead Ralph Tyler Companies successfully in the 21st Century and beyond.
